Taking Flight

So there was I, hair and make up done, sat there batting my eyelashes to all the passers by. Then a breeze ruffled  my carefully coiffured foliage, encouraging any willing departees to feel the air beneath them and take flight up into the world beyond.

Harrumph! I'll have to re-do everything now.

• Taking Flight is an original painting in collage and acrylic paint on stretched canvas (300gsm, 100% unbleached cotton canvas)
• Painting size: 50x50cm / 20"x20" (1.7cm/¾" depth)

Taking Flight is part of my Enchanting Store Fronts Collection. My eyes are always drawn to interesting buildings, shops and streets, and you'll see that I love painting the rambling blooms that add an architecture all of their own around them! They're created using collage as a base layer and then painting in acrylic using a palette knife. The combination of the collage and palette knife painting forms an imaginative extra-textured effect that draws your eye into all the nooks and crannies that the paint seems to have magically settled into.
