Coming to rest by Blacksness Pier after a hectic night on the North Sea winter waves. January sun eases the frozen joints and makes all colours sing true.

The Boats Collection

Blacksness Docks is part of my is part of my Boats Collection which I started whilst painting in Shetland. There are lots of marinas in nooks around the islands full of colourful boats which look beautiful in the sunlight.

They're created using collage as a base layer and then painting in acrylic using a palette knife. The combination of the collage and palette knife painting forms an imaginative textured effect that draws your eye into all the nooks and crannies that the paint seems to have magically settled into.

Colourful and character-filled, Blackness Boats brings the atmosphere of these moored boats in a working island harbour to your home.
