Studio News w/e 10 July ‘26

It's been a swift week this time round - some just whiz by don't they?

I was delighted to have the chance to go to a life drawing session this week, featuring two wonderful clothed models, Magda and Sarah.

As usual, in the spirit of showing all my drawings, warts and all, here they are, starting with three 10 minute poses:

This was followed by two 15 minute poses:

What a joy to draw in the presence of such versatility and cohesion!

I rarely list my life drawings for sale immediately after drawing, but if any have caught your eye, do not hesitate to get in touch via my contact form.

In the studio I worked on and completed a painting from the Magic & Fairy Tales course at Willowing Arts. Here is 'Whimsical Fairy Magic', as tutored by Andrea Gomoll:

I love learning new mixed media techniques, and this fairy was a charming one to paint. It's taken a while to finish, with all the layers involved, but it's these intricacies that are so interesting.

There's also a new luxury scented candle in my ArtOnEverythingShop on Etsy this week. The label shows our painting of the month, Wild Abandon:

That's it from me this week. Wishing you a happy weekend x

P.S. I'm often asked about the art materials I use in my practice. These are the surfaces and materials I used for this week's life drawing session (some are affiliate links):

Surfaces:

  • Derwent Sketch and Store A4 spiral-bound pad - I've had mine for years, but they are widely available, including some I recently found on eBay.
  • I also used some off-cuts of thick creamy paper which I discovered whilst having a forage in my paper stock recently. I have no idea where it's from, but thick smooth drawing paper is pretty widely available.
  • Daler Rowney Murano Pastel paper - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.

Materials:

  • Coates charcoal - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.
  • Farrel&Gold Black to White Shading Pastels - I got mine from The Works, but you'll find them on eBay sometimes.

And for the Whimsical Fairy Magic painting:

Surface:

  • Crawford & Black Mixed Media Art Pad 300gsm- I got mine from The Works,

Materials:

  • Winsor & Newton watercolours - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.
  • Artway Shimmer Watercolour set - I got my set from a museum shop in Penzance (treated myself!), but you can get them direct from Artway and I've seen them on eBay too.
  • Arteza Gouache - I think I bought my set from Amazon, but you can order them from Arteza themselves, and they're on eBay too.
  • Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pens - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.
  • Posca pen - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.
  • Faber Castell PITT artist pen - click here for the link at Jacksons Art.

I'm an affiliate of Jacksons Art, which means I earn a small amount every time a purchase is made using one of the above links at no additional cost to yourself. Thank you in advance for supporting me this way.
