It's been one of those weeks that makes you feel like the days you think you're on are the wrong ones! I hope that you've had a happy one :)
Edinburgh Gallery Space Peruse
On Sunday I whizzed (when I say whizzed, I drove the lovely Buttercup the Beetle) down to Edinburgh to check out an exhibition venue location which has been recommended to me at Dr Neil's Garden. It's in a tower by a tiny loch in a beautiful higgledy-piggledy sloped garden. Idyllic, but lots of practicalities to consider. I can see potential in most things, and the existing exhibition looked great, but access and hangings are weighing in my head, plus the additional expenses of having to stay in the city for however long an exhibition would be. I made the most of the trip though, and checked out Dundas Street Gallery in the city centre after that.
Seeing a space in person, no matter how far away, is always worth it. And whilst I was really tired by the time I returned home on Monday, I've seen places outside of their website photos, which means I can assess them in relation to myself as an exhibitor, not through someone else's eyes. Lots to ponder upon, and I'll keep you posted.
Suffice to say that because I returned on Monday, my head has been a day behind all week. I'm amazed I realised that it's Friday as I type now! Delighted to have realised in time to write this post.
Life Drawing
I went along to life drawing this week too, drawing the wonderful Alex. As always, here are my drawings, warts and all:
My first three 'blind' drawings (where I only look at the model and not at the paper at all):

Then a short pose where I allowed myself to look at the paper I was drawing on:

Followed by a ten-minute pose:

Then a fifteen-minute pose, this time on brown kraft paper:

And the final longer pose for the time we had left after the break:

It was great to draw on the Kraft paper again. I'm using lots of different papers that I've found whilst sorting things out, and this was a delightful find.
I rarely list my life drawings for sale immediately after drawing, but if any have caught your eye, do not hesitate to get in touch via my contact form.

Thank you for reading, I hope you have a lovely weekend. See you next week x
P.S. I'm often asked about the art materials I use in my practice. These are the materials I used for this week's life drawing session:
Surfaces:
- Derwent Sketch and Store A4 spiral-bound pad - I've had mine for years, but they are widely available, including some I recently found on eBay.
- Clairefontaine Brown Kraft pad - click here for the link at Jacksons Art
Materials:
- Coates charcoal - click here for the link to Jacksons Art
- Farrel&Gold Black to White Shading Pastels - I got mine from The Works, but you'll find them elsewhere sometimes
I'm an affiliate of Jacksons Art, which means I earn a small amount every time a purchase is made using one of the above links at no additional cost to yourself. Thank you in advance for supporting me this way.
